Meet Me in St. Louis: Road Trippin' to the Ozarks

After an all-day drive from Toledo, we finally reached our first destination: City Museum. I went in almost completely blind about this place. All I knew was that it's a children’s museum and, when I asked my husband what it was like, he told me that he would rather keep it a mystery for me. I’m so glad he did!

When we pulled up to the building and I set eyes on an old, ten-story-tall shoe warehouse with a Ferris wheel on top, I was instantly entranced by the whimsy. There was a school bus with its door opening and closing, partially on the edge of the rooftop, and there were airplanes connected by caged metal tubes. And that was just the outside.

The inside presented a labyrinth of caves, aquariums, slides, passageways, and anything your youthful imagination could have ever conjured up in childhood. It was a delight. We definitely got a workout trying to keep up with our three-year-old, who went absolutely wild crawling through tunnels with destinations unknown.

You have to stay on your toes if you have a little one at City Museum, because it would be incredibly easy to get lost here. They do have a very cool toddler area if you want to keep little kiddos contained.

City Museum is the manifestation of sculptors Bob and Gail Cassily’s vision to use discarded items from the city to make a giant work of art that doubles as a playground. It might be the #1 children’s museum we have ever visited. For an overnight stop on the way to our first major destination, City Museum fit the bill. Next up: Branson, Missouri!
